Layla Donyai

Licensed Professional Counselor

Credentials
I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Oklahoma. My license number is 12224. I completed my Bachelors at the University of Central Oklahoma in Organizational Leadership. I completed my Master of Education in Applied Behavioral Studies: Professional Counseling at Oklahoma City University.

My Approach
My grounding theory is a person centered approach. I also incorporate strategies from other theories as needed based on the client, your presenting concerns, and your individual goals.

As a person centered provider, I respect my client’s autonomy in leading the therapeutic process and deciding what to share in the counseling space. This approach is based on three core components.

  • Unconditional positive regard - I have high respect for those that have taken the step to seek help on their mental health journey. Some individuals experience shame about what they share in counseling, and I hope to earn your trust to not only share your story with me, but to also trust that I can still see you as complete person outside of your individual experiences.

  • Empathy - I strive to create space where clients feel seen and understood. I do not practice as a “blank slate” and I believe that empathy is part of the healing process.

  • Authenticity - All clients have different needs in their mental health care journey and I strive to be both adaptable and authentic in sessions. I can be direct or use silence as needed.

Me as a Person
I have lived in Oklahoma for most of my life. I have a background in corporate jobs, including leadership positions, HR, and professional development. I became a counselor because I value creating space for those seeking support to cope with life’s challenges.
